As with all industrial processes, metal spinning originated as a craft—some sources say in China, others in pre-Christian Greece, Rome or Egypt. Traditionally, cast forms of rotation have been finished by turning and burnishing. Spin burnishing to spin forming is but a short step, and I suppose this to be the origin of spinning.
